Radio

Do you remember when the iPod first hit the market? The national craze over the newest technological innovation? This isn't the first time a new technology has taken over the world. It happened with CD's players, Walkmans, and boom boxes. But the thing that started it all was radio. The technological change is one of the main reasons that the radio became one of the main communication technologies that is still around today.
While the basic radio was constructed by Marconi, the patent owner of the radio as we know it today is Nikola Tesla. "http://inventors.about.com/od/rstartinventions/a/radio.htm" The first regular radio programming began on November 20th, 1920 and quickly progressed on from there. What did this all mean? This new technology would lead to the quicker spread of entertainment, from music to program. But the invention of the radio also lead to nationwide propaganda most importantly about war. The radio was a key factor of the development of our country as a whole and indirectly lead to the creation of new inventions, like A tracks and cassettes.

The history of radio.

Cultivation

America's youth are always being cultivated, and they're probably not even aware of it. Wrestling is cultivating America's youth to perform the dangerous stunts they see on television, even though wrestling is fake, viewers perceive it is real.
Cultivation is the perception that what is seen on TV is true reality and is how the viewer should act. The theory is that if we watch enough programming about something, we will assume that is the norm. This can work in both positive and negative ways, but most programming and 'reality' shows on TV will provide for negative cultivation because it makes the program more fun to watch.
A great example of cultivation is wrestling. Wrestling is widely known to be fake, but unfortunately, some still believe wrestling to be real. So when viewers see their favorite wrestlers come away unharmed from crazy dangerous stunts, they feel that if they perform those same stunts, they will also come away unscathed. Professional athletes are professional for a reason. They know how to perform the stunts and come away unharmed, by correctly 'faking' stunts. A cultivated audience tries to imitate these stunts with awful results.

Framing on Fox News

Fox News' use of framing allows them to create biased, right wing programming which they use to scare and persuade the American public.
Framing is the most persuasive and most important media practice. Gate-Keeping and Agenda Setting is what gets on air, what gets seen by the American public. Framing however, is what you tell people to think about a subject and how you present these stories. Whether it be in a positive or negative light. How you make a person feel about a subject, dictates how they think, act, and vote.
Fox uses framing to put instill negative ideas about liberal figures into the heads of Americans. Before the 2008 election, Fox ran many questionable stories about Obama, one accused him of having Muslim roots, one accused him of supporting terrorists. The most ridiculous story was calling a 'fist bump' he did with his wife a 'terrorist fist jab.' This was definitely a smear by fox news to convince viewers that Obama is a terrorist

El Posto Numero Uno

Hi, my name is Luke Adams and this is my first blog post for RTF. I am taking this class because I am an amateur filmmaker and looking to learn about my future profession. I think RTF 305 is the best way to introduce myself to college film classes. I am hoping to learn the basics in 305 that will help me in all my future RTF classes. My goal in the filmmaking world is to be a cinematographer. I love being behind the camera and controlling it.

In case you didn't know, I'm already pretty famous in front of the camera.

Pause it at the 24 second mark. You see the kid in the black, 2 people to the left of Vanessa holding up the hook'em horns? That's me.

Pause it at the 2:19-2:20 mark. You see that blurry face that comes into the shot during the prom scene. That's me again.

I'm all over this one.
